Journalist
Welcome to my site! I’m Caroline Simon Coudriet, a defense and national security reporter at CQ Roll Call. I cover Congress through a lens of national security, focusing on the authorization and appropriations process alongside other defense-related legislative efforts.
Previously, I was an immigration reporter. I wrote about the Biden administration’s efforts to undo Trump-era immigration policies, negotiations on a budget reconciliation bill that would have reshaped the American immigration system, the refugee crisis following the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan, and many other subjects.
I started working for CQ Roll Call in 2018 as a committees reporter, where I covered House and Senate committee markups for our legislative tracking product.
I previously reported for USA Today, where I covered national daily breaking news. In 2018, I reported on protests over the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh, youth voting in the 2018 midterm elections, Washington D.C.’s Unite the Right rally, and more.
I’m a 2018 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania with degrees in English and Communication. I spent most of my time at The Daily Pennsylvanian, Penn’s student paper, where I covered the admissions and administration beats, spent a year as Campus News Editor, published several investigative stories and features, and spearheaded a new podcast about campus politics.
When I’m not reporting and writing, you can probably find me baking, reading or cheering on Philadelphia sports teams.
